30—GEAR Production Supplement P r o d u c t N e w s Portable Gear Metrology Machine for Shopfoor or Inspection Room Available from Kapp Technologies, R&P; Metrology's RPG PM 750/1250 portable gear metrology machine can be used for shopfoor gear inspection using generative metrology as well as inspection lab CMM operations. The fexible machine can measure gears of unlimited size when used as a portable system, the company says. Docking stations with 3,000 mm outside capability are available for inspection lab use with full CNC control. When docked, the machine is said to be capable of 3D prismatic metrology. The station features a built-in active rotary table that provides accuracy for form and roundness measurements. According to the company, the system adheres to the Inspection Plus-Plus (I++) protocol and can utilize any compliant CMM software, such as solutions from Wenzel and Zeiss. Designed as an alternative to HSS hobs and disc cutters for module range 10-18, the hob features indexable carbide inserts with four cutting edges for roughing, semi-fnishing and fnishing operations. The tool is well-suited for workpieces such as spur gears and helical gears found in gearboxes, and transmissions for wind power and other heavy-industry applications. The hob's segment fxturing interface ensures cutter accuracy and rigidity for greater stability during machining. According to the company, the tool enables aggressive cutting without decreased security or reliability. Secure, stable insert seats offer reliable performance and avoid sudden failures, the company says. Insert screws are positioned for easy accessibility, and there are no inclined screw holes. Tools can be designed to accommodate fnishing inserts for DIN 3972-2 profles or roughing inserts with protrusions. Designed for machine tool manufacturers seeking to improve performance of gear production machines or expand gear manufacturing range with threaded wheel grinders, the CNC system is said to reduce grinding machine threading-in times and accelerate throughput. The system is now able to predict the acceleration of axes as well as their speed in order to minimize synchronization time. A high-performance electronic gearbox enables full synchronization of all master axes, such as the grinding, X, Y and Z axes with a C-axis spindle. A new "fast gear alignment" function eliminates the need for acoustic emission sensors for threading- in the grinding wheel. According to the company, the function enables automated grinding wheel positioning and production. NUM Corporation | 630-505-7722 | num.com 0314_MMS_Gear_Products.indd 30 2/13/2014 2:54:15 PM
