Skiving Machine for Cylindrical Gears Gleason Corporation, Booth 423 Gleason's 100PS power skiving machine accommodates cylindrical external gears ranging to 100 mm in diameter and internal gears ranging to 150 mm in diameter. The machine is said to improve performance and quality, particularly in shaping, forming, pressing and broaching operations, and the skiving process has the potential to be used as a "green" fnishing operation. The system can be operated both manually and automatically, and can be integrated into production lines with a variety of peripheral equipment for any production volume and lot size. Additional models in the PS series can accommodate workpieces as large as 700 mm in diameter. The company offers a variety of forged tool gear types, including spur with 0.040" minimum stock for a light hob cut; spur with 0.008" minimum stock for grinding; helical with 0.040" minimum stock for a light hob cut; spiral bevels with 0.020" minimum stock; and net spur gears and splines to fnish size. The near-net forged tooth gears are said to extend tool life, reduce cycle times, and reduce or eliminate rough hobbing. The turning center's maximum machining diameter measures 13.78" for processing medium- to large-sized gears. The MSY confguration features milling and Y-axis capability as well as main and second turning spindles. Mazak will also display its Integrex i-300ST fve-axis multitasking machine capable of producing medium- to large-sized gears in single setups.
